A small discussion started here on that.
The way programmers think (http://forums.vb-world.net/showthread.php?postid=95673#post95673)
So i will continue it slightly, and before i get flamed, i am not being sexist, i am just a realist.
As was discussed in those couple of posts, i think that good programmers think in a certain manner. In my opinion, we are more logically brained. We see a problem, and logically think a path through to the solution.
Men are closer to this way of thinking without any training. In life we are generally the more logical of the two sexes. if we have a problem, we try and find a solution. This i fell is probably because, as women constantly tell us, we are emotionally retarded. ;) We tend not to care about the problem, as much as finding a solution to it.
On the other hand women are not emotionally retarded. The majority of females are very deeply emotional, and when they have a problem, the problem itself is often a bigger deal to them than finding a solution.
Now if you consider the fact that as programmers we have to deal with logic (well apparently it's logic, but it appears not to be sometimes) all the time, and if the above is true, then men are probably better equipped to deal with the problems raised by programming. The whole point of programming boils down to the fact that someone has a problem, and we need to provide a solution.
It is purely a difference in thinking. Whether this way of thinking is built into the sexes is another matter. It could well be society that breeds into us this way of thinking. This may be because boys and girls are socialized in a different way, we have quite different influences as we are growing up, but again this is due to what society feels boys and girls should do, and how they should behave.
Now don't get me wrong, there are of course exceptions to the rule, and i do know some female programmers, and they are very good at what they do. This is just a crass generalisation of a very open topic.
that sounds like a good answer!!!!!!

Ok then
As much as I hate to agree with Iain i think that in principle he's telling the truth. However what I've found in my experience is that Women are better at being able too see the entire picture, sure Men can focus on a problem and fix it but often with little thought to what else may get affected later by this later on. The focus is so strong that every thing else is forgotten.
Don't shoot me in flames for this one, its just my experience of the IT industry!
There are continually more women entering IT, but it is still perceived as being a male "geeky" career. However I think with the rising demand for IT professionals and the increasing salaries for good coders this will change, if only a little.
I don't think there is any really difference in the level of coding coming from either sex, we just work differently.

i was just interested because none of the girls from school is even vaguely interested in computers... some of them don't even know what to do after a bad shutdown (i.e. do nothing). but i guess that's because of the of the girls where i live are far too busy talking about boys and makeup so and on... i'm not saying that every in the whole is world is like my town.
Iain17, and Gin_bee i kinda agree with you. it just strikes me that the supposidly cleverer sex is not as cleverer then the males at what would seem to be a straight forward task such as programming in my town. the goverment's saying how girls are more intellegent than boys, and how they always beat the boys when it come to exams etc... i'm just sick of it.
Well i'm moving out asap... :) i'm going to move to a town where girl do programming too and find myself a girl friend who'll look at males as if they were equal and not all just "all brawn and no brain".
p.s. i'm not having a go at the females. infact i quiet like females ;). i'm just saying that the traditional view of the sexes are wrong, females are not house wives, and men are not mr. muscle with no brains...
no havent read it and dont have it,
give a few examples on why men are programmers and women arent....
please.... if you dont I'll take away your hamster!

There was a study shown on TLC once. A pair of teenage boys were put in a hedge maze, and a pair of girls on the other side. The hedge maze had identical turns and signs to confuse the players. It was shown that women relied more on landmarks, therefore making them go in circles. While the men tried to figure out which direction to go, and which way they were facing when they started, and which way they should face at the end. Their explanation of this was that when the human race was in its infancy, women gathered berries, therefore would follow the paths and bushes. But the men would have to go hunting for meat, but meat had no trail meat went where ever it wanted (like man), so the men started to develope brains more on problem solving (getting home)

there is an easy way to find out, take a iq test, if your iq is lower then 0 then you are a woman
if its more then you're a man
I'm just kidding,
why would a man say that they are a woman, and say that they like other men unless they are gay. and no offence but gay people can't be good programmers becuase they are always thinking about other men...
so my conclusion is that wonder woman is a woman
(everyone applauses dimava)
(dimava takes a bottel of beer and smashes it on chippies face, and takes wonder woman)

no I am not one of those people that you just mentioned
what the hell are you talking about dimava?
I like women, and I am always thinking about them, that doesnt make me program bad, how does thinking about men make your programming any worse then thinking about women? you sexist ŧ§ hole.....
and not to be rude, but who ever said WW was a good programmer?
I think we should all declare a war against dimava, not only a batwar, but a VB war, a sexist war, a voting-guru-for-yourself war, and a lame-computer-user war.....
oh, and a thumbwar.......
I am not trying to be an ******* here, but dimava is making fun of gay people, I am not gay..... I am NOT gay, but I am sure there must be a few here, its not their fault, same thing with women and men,
also dimava, howcome women can think about men and still be a good programmer?
and what makes you think gay people always think about men, maybe they just like to get it up the butt, you say you are smart for your age, well I think your dumb, you shouldnt make fun of people until you know them, I know I am breaking that rule with WW, but I dont know if s/he is a man or a woman...
beleive me, dimava is not Batman, Batman is nice to people, and once Batman mentioned he was in desert storm, dimava says he is 12, he could be lying, but dimava is not smart enough to be Batman
I am sorry dimava, but you have been getting on my nerves lately, why do people in general Vb need to know about your dumb signature that you stole of a program,
wow look at me I have a new signature, I laughed a little when I saw the joke, la-di-da I didnt post a whole new thread in general VB Q&A saying "look, my signature is funnny and I am braindead"....
and voting himself for guru, that makes john reluctant to promote anybody to guru, even if they deserve it(like JHaussman, and HeSaidJoe).....
I dont think dimava is V(ery) either, sure V(ery) is crazy, but he is also very good at VB... dimava has to gain recognition from people by turning messages into Chr(_)'s, he may be XxEvilxX, they seem like the same style....
I am starting to get really pissed at people like you dimava.......
like I said before,I am so sorry for saying this.....

You spoke very well Dennis. Agree and behind you 100% if a war is to break out.
Lets get Batman into this too. How can we contact him? Do you have the BIG BAT LOGO?
Batman is doing a top-secret bat-vb project in the bat 5th dimension... he has been real busy lately...
