Hey all.
I just wonder what possible reasons there are that the pc in my office is not playing the midi music and the wav files at the same time in a game i wrote.
This program works just fine at home and also in a friend's computer. Both PC's have SoundBlaster cards.
If it makes a difference, the Midi is DirectMusic while the wav's use the usual sndPlaySound Function and winmm.dll
Any ideas or suggestions?

Could well be the sound card. An office computer isn't usually "Multimedia Robust", meaning the sound card and probably other MM devices may not be up to standard. It all depends on how many channels the sound card supports. I think it works like this: if a sound card supports 16 channels then 16 different sounds can be played at the same time - or something like that. It may be the sound card at your office is only 8bit or even 4? Of course this may not be the reason and in this case, I can’t help you.

Are you sure that the MIDI and Wave devices have their volume turned up and aren't muted? Check the mixer...

thanks for the replies. the sound card at home is SoundBlaster Live. the one at the office is Soundblaster Vibra PCI 128. I designed both of these computers and the one at the office is actually a much better machine ( since the company paid for it).
Well, i'll check the volume setting when i get to the office, but I have been been playing Midis and wavs independently with no problems yet.
Anyway, thanks agains.

Does it start off playing the midi and then cut it short when the wav is played, or the other way around?
Can it play them both independantly of each other *when called from your program*?

Oh yeah,
Do both machines have the same version of DirectX.
Does the machine at work have uptodate drivers for the sound card - try nabbing some new ones from their web site.
