Annoying thing that keeps happening...
I've got Windows 98 on my PC at home and there's this really annoying think that keeps happening....
After about 1 minute after I boot up, it automatically tries to dial up my internet connection. I get the dial up connect dialog box which I cancel and it goes away.
Does anybody know what this is or how to stop it?
I have nothing set to auto startup in my startup folder, registry or windows ini file. When I bring up the task manager, I see no task running.
Once, I tried letting it dial up and connect to see what happened and...nothing! Nothing visible anyway...
Perhaps it's a virus?

This is the kind of thing that could take ages to figure out.
Try searching for spyware or checking the settings of any programs that have an auto update facility.

When you say search for spyware, where do you search?

Looks for S&D Search and Destroy in google.
Also go to Start>Run>type "Msconfig" without the " and look at your startup tab. Anything running there which shouldnt?

I already tried disabling everything on auto startup with MSConfig but to no avail. I'll try that anti-spyware thingie though...

And if S&D isnt appealing try searching Lavasoft AdAware, both are good spyware removal tools. Also cleans crap Kazaa installs off (that is if you use Kazaa however).
