what's up with the SATA power cables?

my hdd supports the old type of power cables and the newer SATA type cables. What's the difference? would there be any difference in performance if I use a normal power cable ?

Instead of IDE its Serial ATA

I think you are going to notice some difference (speed wise) using SATA (Serial ATA)...sata is faster and the cables are tiny.(compared to old ribbons)
