I have an old cd rom in my computer (I took it out of an old computer). I just bought a cd burner and I was wondering if there would be any issues if I just removed the old cd rom and installed the new burner in its place???

The old drive reads at 8x or something slow like that and the new burner reads at 48x...so I thought I will just toss the old one and just use the burner as a cd rom and cd burner....

Any issues with doing this???

Should not be an issue as long as you have the correct drivers and good [***Roxio***subliminal suggestion***] burning software....

Should be a big difference from 8x...I have an old dos box that uses the trays you put the CDs in then slide the tray into the CDROM...:(

Use Nero, great burning software. Windows should also just detect the drive, and install it to the same place as the old one.

roxio = POS

use nero

whatever you do make sure both the burner and software support some kind of under run protection, as it sounds like you have an old box

Nah shouldn't have any problems.

If you like click and go easyway then use ROXIO or else NERO is the coolest. :)

Ah, if you bought Nero, you shouldn't have any probs (Which it sounds like you did) but just a note of caution, the OEM versions lock onto the burner they came bundled with. You may have to update it to the newest version to have it successfully detect your burner depending on the age of the burner (when it was originally released) and the date of the version of Nero you have installed.

One thing you won't be able to do is upgrade to v6, that sucks and i really hate Ahead for that, so, you'll be up for a new version of nero :(

My mate bought a DVD burner, one thing you gotta remember with nero and DVDs, is to chage the format you are burning to!! In the new window, the top left corner it should say CD in a drop down menu, change it to DVD and it works fine.
