    Sound Card Woes (resolved)

The other night I was running windows update, and noticed that there was an audio driver listed on there. Now normally I don't download drivers from windowsupdate, but I had a lapse in judgement and went for it. I checked it, started the downloading, and went to bed. This morning, the installation for the driver had hung at 99% and the browser window was frozen. I killed it, and tried to play an audio file. No sound. I head to device manager. Uhoh, I think -- it was trying to install a driver for my on board sound, which conflicted with my SB Live! Now, anything I try to do in device manager pertaining to my SB Live! or onboard MMC driver results in a freeze. I can't disable, roll back, or update. I tried installing the creative drivers -- it says I don't have a creative card installed.

I'm at the end of my rope here. Any suggestions are welcome.

Every passing hour brings the Solar System forty-three thousand miles closer to Globular Cluster M13 in Hercules -- and still there are some misfits who insist that there is no such thing as progress.

Try uninstalling them, if that doesn't work, try doing it in safe mode.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Looks like the installer changed the On Board Audio setting in the BIOS. I switched it back to Auto, and we're golden.
