Are there any robust desktop database system that's beyond ms access?

Here's what i am looking at doing:
There are always a need for action logging and creating audit trail in almost all the project i got assigned. It is just kinda annoying doing these logging part all over again.. and again.

So i am looking for a fast reliable database system that i could develop as a flexible component which will plug into all my projects regardless i am using MS SQL, MySQL, MSDE and Access as an auditing module. Logging information such as errors, user actions, system performance, security and so forth are typical.

Codebase looks interesting and robust for what i intended, yet never heard of... any other pointers or directions are welcome.
