Hi,

A client of the company I work for has asked us to do general calculation on how much power a PC will consume if left ON overnight from 6:00 PM to 9:00 AM while the monitor is switched off.

Now I couldn't find any straight method so I guess I need to do it in old fashion way.

Leave the pc overnight and join some sort of measuring device which tells how much power was used when the pc was not being used.

Just want to know that what kinda device can I use to do so...? We have a multimeter in the office if that can be used somehow in conjuction with other device.

Cheers

I don't think you can use a multimeter whilst the item is on.... I think it just checks what amp/volt/ohm's can be passed through it at any one time. [might be wrong though!]

The easiest way would be to get the wattage from the PSU, then calculate it that way.

I've just done some figures, but they don't look right! I'll be back when it makes sense! :p

Thanks I did the same kinda calculation and the figures don't look good so I called Energy Authority and they are going to send me some documentation which will tell the general usage of office equipments but that wont make sense too.

I think I need to use WATTMETER.

Any idea...?
