VB6 and VB.NET installed on same machine

I have been informed VB6 and VB.NET can be installed on the same machine.

I have been looking on the Microsoft site but can't find any white paper on it.

If I install VB6 with sourcesafe what affect does that have on .net?
Which MSDN should I install so it is compatible with the right verson of VB?

I would appreciate it if any of you can point me in the direction of the answers.

Have you done anything special about sourcesafe?

I need to install it at work on the network where the sourcesafe database will be installed on a network server.
Do you know what version of sourcesafe does .net use?

.NET will work with the VB6 version of SourceSafe or at least it did for me. Also if you do upgrade to the version in .NET then there is a thing in the installation about maintaining backward compatability.

All this is so we can move to .net, so .net sourcesafe is preffered so we can dump vb6 easier.

The .NET version of sourcesafe is basically the same and you aren't really losing anything by staying with your current version. The version number isn't even different VB6 has SourceSafe v6 and .NET has like v6b or something like that. I didn't notice any difference except during installation about what type of actual backend it uses.

Should I install sourcesafe when I install VB6 or VB.net

Here is what happen to me. I already was using VB6 Enterprise and had SourceSafe installed and in use. I then installed VS.NET later but didn't install the SourceSafe that came with it. When I fired up .NET it already linked to my existing SourceSafe that had been installed with VB6. Then SourceSafe worked fine with VB6 and .NET. I later installed the new SourceSafe with .NET on another machine but didn't notice any differences so I never bothered to switch my main setup.

I currently have sourcesafe 6.0a installed with VB6.

In my MSDN box I have sourcesafe 6.0d. Do you know of any benefit to installing the 6.0d version?

I have both VS6 and VS.NET installed on the same machine, with both version of MSDN. Runs without problems.

VS.NET come with SourceSafe 6 and so does VS6. Like someone said above, it comes with 6b, and VS6 comes with 6a or something like that. I haven't noticed a difference in the two, and they both work with both VS6 and VS.NET.

I was expecting there to be a .NET version of SourceSafe, but I guess that Microsoft agrees with me, that it does what it does great and doesn't require a port/rewrite to be a .NET application.

I failled when trying to install VS.NET on Win98 machine ( I followed the instruction on setup.exe in Disk1) , I though there is a special setup for this, could you please give me guidance for doing this?

Although you can run .NET applications on Win98 you can NOT install VS.NET on Win98. Check the system requirements for it, they state Win2k or higher.

The .NET Framework supports Win98 and higher, but VS.NET only supports Win2K and higher.

I knew there was some issue with VS.Net and WIN98 but couldn't remember exactly myself.
