I was watching the protests for the DNC (DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION) last night on tv and what upset me the most is the fact that i saw two cops sitting on there fatt asses on horses and they had to WOMEN forced up against a wall and they were poking them and hitting them with there ****ing batons.

Leave it to a cop to beat up on people who cant defend themselves...

I agree with you. People always complain about something. Like in Los Angeles, they are always complainning about the cops but when in time of need, they call the station like a bunch of cowards. Where is recognition for these cops. They have to risk their lifes on the line more than receiving compensations.

I do realize there are BAD cops too, but you can't judge a batch from the act of one.

It is in the nature of people to complain.

I am just upset to see our society is like this. Example, Clinton has done good for our country and people are always criticizing at the pool guy. Who care if he had an affair. What does that have to do with his job? If you have an affair with your co-worker, what the *uck does that have to do with your job. Does that make you can't program?

The more I think about it, I think we live in a society where 80% of the population is purely stupid. They only see the face value and how the *uck up Media wants to portrait it.

penguin i do agree with you totally. the only problem occurs when things go wrong. if you had an affair with your co-worker you could still program but you might be a little distracted by her/him. also if you split up with this person in a really nasty way with plenty of bitter recriminations thrown in where does that leave you? up sh*t creek with a co-worker who holds the paddle and is beating you with it. generally affairs with co-workers don't matter too much though. i know i've had one.

as for the whole police thing unless these were two bloody stupid cops do you know if the two women were doing anything bad or were they just stood there gossiping (women do that you know, there could be a riot going on around them and they would still find time to gossip, anyway i digress) if they were doing something before hand that could have hurt someone else or the police then the police were just doing their job. they are there to protect people, from themselves even.

Someone we know was getting robbed and when the robber tunred around for a minute the person that was getting robbed shot the thief in the back,and what did the cops say
"Well why didnt you call us?" hahaha oh yeah i can just see it.."Um excuse me mr thief? while your robbing me blind can i call the police so they can arrest you?" hahaha

Here's a example of corrupted cops.
My father owns his own business and he was talking to a cop once and the cop (A sheriff mind you) told my father
"If you ever shot someone that was stealing from you..just get a weapon or something and but it and YOUR wallet in the thiefs hand..so when the police get to the crime scene it would look like self defense.

It's pretty stupid IMHO. Who was it on this forum that said something about a programmer who was having an argument with another programmer, so he stuck a gun in the guys mouth and shot him, then shot himself? Why does somebody as irresponsible as that have a gun in the first place? It's madness. I guess it's a legacy from the old west, I think they put something in the bill of rights that the people had a right to bear arms didn't they? Bet the people who deal with crime regret it now.

If you're not getting shot you're getting sued it seems.

Me and a freind of mine were coming back from a store buying beer and my friend was speeding (5mph over the limit not to much) so we got pulled over, and the first thing the cop does is, gets my freind out of the car slams him on the hood and searches him, then he puts him in the back of the squad car, then he gets me and does the exact same thing..then his partner who was a trainee was in charge of typing up our information to see if we har any warrants etc... then the sherrif tells the trainee "watch your bac" then she closes her passenger side door and then he screams
"I DONT GIVE A FLYING **** DO NOT EVER CLOSE YOUR DOOR!! **** THESE PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE IF THEY DONT LIKE IT THEY CAN GO AROUND!!!" so the partner was even more nervous cause of his attitude then she kep doing typos and he said "GET THE **** OUT OF THE CAR" and he took her to the side of the road and was cussing her out, then too top everything off he was asking my friend how much money he spent on his car and he would cuss her out left and right"

and countless other episodes with police that i have experienced...

not All police are like that, most of them are, but there is a small percent that are actually "good cops"

this is why I started that stereotypes thread, although you havent met All of the cops in the US, you still think they are all the same because of what you heard or how one of them acted against you.

While I believe that Sophtware is being extreme, I think that he/she is basically right about police misconduct. Perhaps if I were not white and not somewhat affluent (not rich), I would have had some experiences that would make be bitter also.

A serious problem with the police is that the decent ones do not do anything about the bad ones.

In a city near me, a small group of police did outrageous things, including putting a 60 year old grandmother in jail on faked up evidence. I have also read about terrible police conduct in several other cities.

They have been caught, indicted, and I think they are now in jail. Almost everyone jailed due to the activities of these officers has been released. Some of those released were probably guilty. In the more flagrant cases, civil lawsuits were filed, and the city had to pay enormous sums.

There were all sorts of comments about how it was only a few bad cops out of thousands. There were also comments about guilty until proven innocent: "Do not fire them unless they are found guilty."

Damn!! I just do not believe that none of the decent police knew what was going on. There is some esprit de corps among police that requires looking the other way, covering up, refusing to testify against fellow officers. If it were not for the decent ones looking the other way the rotten ones would be weeded out in a hurry.

Another thing I do not like: The apologists who say "It is only a few bad ones," are never willing to admit that there were probably a lot more who did not get caught.

I know the police have a difficult, dangerous job. I also know that it is a job that attracts sadists and men hung up on power.

In the USA, police are given guns and the right to use them. I firmly believe in due process when deciding whether or not to put somebody in jail. However, when it comes to firing a policeman for brutality or other bad behavior, I think a much stricter standard should be applied: Not "Innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt." It should be possible to fire a policeman on evidence (even just suspicion) that would be woefully insufficient for a criminal conviction.

If I ran a bank and one of my tellers was acquitted of embezzlement due to a technicality, I for sure would want the right to fire him. I would want to be able to fire him before the trial just on the basis of personal suspicions.

There are a lot of bad judges in the USA who abuse their power and/or make stupid decisions, but that should be the subject of another thread.

FYI… I been pull over by the LAPD twice the 6 years I worked there. The first time was a suspect issue, but the second time was for running a red light half way. The cop let me go after I explained to him I came home from a long day of work and gave me a long ass lecture. Even if the first time was a police issue, but it did not mean all cops are arsehole.

After reading your junk letter, now I know why you don’t like the LAPD and the LAPD don’t like you.

I do not really want to defend Sophtware, because he/she is so bitter that a lot of what has been written is difficult to defend. I agree that there are two sides to most stories, and his/her account seems a bit questionable.

That having been said, have you read about some of the outrageous conduct by the LAPD in the past year or so?

I thought OJ was guilty, and wondered why the jury acquitted him at the time. It now seems to me that the jury might also have thought he was guilty and decided to send a message to the LAPD. Either that, or they so distrusted the LAPD that they believed the "I was framed" theory.

When police are known to deliberately cause unjust convictions, they start losing credibility when testifying or presenting evidence against guilty defendants.

As mentioned in previous Post, the police in a city near me (Not LA) have done some terrible things. One that I did not mention in previous Post was the conviction of an innocent man about 15 years ago. He spent 3-6 years on death row, won an appeal, and was awarded over a million by a jury when the police & judicial misconduct was uncovered.

When the police or the judicial system steps out of line, I wonder how the victims can avoid frothing at the mouth due to frustration.

OK, this is the main reason I posted this.... post.... :o :

I used to not like cops, because of stories I always heard of them(I have never really had any trouble with the cops so I really dont know what they are like), but these stories I heard just keep getting more and more outrageous, so I didnt beleive them, but then later on I heard some beleivable stories.
I didnt know what to think, and since I have never had any trouble with them,
if somebody were to ask me about the behavior of police, my answer would be non-biased
and it seems sophtware's opinion is heavily biased, because of his experience, and that stereotype he has in his brain.
