Question Picture Blank... in Win98 but not in Win2K why?

    guys,

i am using the ezvidcap.ocx to capture pictures from a web cam... and it works pretty fine in the Win2K OS but ... not in the Win98.. As the picture being produced in the win98 is all in Grey Color ....

what is the possible cause of this??? outdated ocx or dll in the win98 OS??? Please advise (files are saved as bmp and jpg)

another thing.. when i use the internet explorer to browse internet (in win98 platform).. all the colourful pictures can be displayed.... ....... this is weird pro.... Expert know of anything???

There are a few possible reasons, here's the ones I can think of right now:

Colour depth - the pictures from the web-cam might be 32 bit colour, and the display settings are 16 bit (the pictures you see are likely to be 16 bit)

ocx/dll version (a) - there may be an old version of the control on Win98, which isn't compatible with your camera.

ocx/dll version (b) - lots of Windows API's changed between Win98 and Win2000, so there might be a completely different version of the control.

connection/camera - no idea how your camera(s) connect to the computer(s), maybe there is a hardware issue?? (camera or computer)

    Question

i think should be the second reason...

Si_The_Geek , if i replace all the necessary ocx and dll and windows API in 98 will it damage the OS?

if not, can you comment what i should do ? Because the application is running perfectly fine in windows 98 and the ocx is displaying the pictures but the picture that the ocx saved is just a blank picture..
    Thank You

The first thing I would do is refer to the creator of the software.. if they have a web-site then there is probably an FAQ page, which should have an answer for this sort of thing. (Also check that it is supposed to work for Win98)

If there isn't a solution from that, try removing the ezvidcap software, then reboot & re-install.
