    Is DirectX difficult to learn?

I've heard all the comotion about TransparentBlt and memory leaks, so I have decided not to take that route.

Anyways, I'm trying to make an Arkanoid-type game, and am thinking about making it using DX9, which I installed about 6 weeks ago. I was wondering how difficult it really was to learn, if it was backwards-compatible (can I use DX7 routines in DX9?) and if there are any newbie-friendly tutorials out there, as I don't understand examples on PSC.

It's not very dificult. But it's not as easy as just playing around in VB. Put a lot of the code is the same over and over againg. SO you will probably like the Copy/paste function.

There is some tutorials at directx4vb.com if you are programming in VB. If you are not ask again.

DX9 has an improved 3D library from DX7 and 8, and it has DDraw like DX7, but DX8 has not DDraw.

Oh boy, I see some trigonometric functions here.

I think I'll stick with using BitBlt, since I have no idea what a sine or cosine is.

Hehe...if you are looking at the 3D examples you will always have some math. If you are not, it's only for positioning the sprites. Don't be scared of the math in 2D. It's not hard at all.-..if you don't want it to be hard...
