I found a site that has borland c++ for free download
and i started to download it and i guess since i have a 56Krappy Modem i have to wait as of right now ...4hr 4min and 50 seconds to complete download.

Damn this sucks....

By the way..what is it with warez sites that must display all that porn and flood your screen with extra windows?
That is so annoying.

If anyone wants the url for the site to download the borland c++ the url is http://www.vpsecurity.com/

It also has visual studio 6 ..but right now it is offline...

See ya.

I downloaded the DX7a SDK the other night - I left it overnight cos it took about 9 hours on my 42k connection ;) (it's 128 Mb)

If it takes 9 hours, then it's hardly free :(. About 6 quid, methinks. Unless, however, you're like me and have unmetered access (RedHotAnt - voted the worst ISP for the last few months running ;))

Your right about all the porn popups - they are so annoying! That's why I creating a program which will stop them from poping up. I'll post here when finished.

how are you making this program?

WorldOnline has free internet every day and there is no monthly or yearly charge or connection charge.

But before you start a search, it was only available to LocalTel customers (whose phone provider was also LocalTel, not BT or anything). LocalTel has been taken over by WorldOnline, so your chance has gone. :D

The occasional gloat doesn't do any damage.

I can't go into too much detail about the program yet denniswrenn. It will be finished in around 4 days and I may relese the source (thats if anybody wants it).

Thats what i LOVE about programming...you can create your own things that tweak something.
I am starting to make a program that gets rid of those stupid pop up adds that appear when i start america online
and also to get rid of spam email.

Yes i would love to see that code you are making for the pop up adds.

Me too ;) Most of my (finished) progs are tools to tweak something...

Did you notice that programmers don't have that much crashes as 'normal' users?

Aug 13th, 2000, 04:19 PM
I would love the source!!!

but what are you using?
are you monitering for new instances of IE, or are you looking for a specific URL(s) to block??
I used to have a program called InterMute, it did this, but it costed like $15
that is the one program you wouldnt find on a warez site ;)
it kills all the popups, and they wouldnt want that.. hehe

My firewall, AtGuard, blocks popup windows. There used to be a free copy floating around somewhere (do an FTP search for build11.zip).

Why download it? Just get someone with a copy and a cd-writer...like me...to send you one. If you're in Britain then I can post you a couple of CDs (the professional edition is what I have).

I'm on BT surftime, 26 quid a month for free acces 24/7. Would have sounded like a lot to me a year ago but then I started playing Ultima Online and was paying about 25 quid a week for phone calls. Don't play it any more, it's an evil game that eats all your spare time and a lot of your not-spare time ;)

Is RedHotAnt any good? Heard of it and it seems pretty cheap, but is it a crappy connection?

Simple way to kill porn popups.

Have two browsers installed. I use Netscape and Opera.

Netscape: everything enabled for normal browsing, like on this group.

Opera: JScript and Java and VBScript and cookies and just about everything unders the Sun (pun intended) disabled.
Text and pictures only. This is the browser I use for underground sites.

Also: You can prevent porn (and advertisement banners in general) from appearing at the tops of webpages and wasting bandwidth. Here's how: In windows, there's a hosts file, I think it's 'hosts.sam'. When you visit a web page with an annoying ad, put the mouse over the ad and see what server it's being pulled from. Y'see, most ads on the net come froem one of a set of advertisement servers. So you note the server the ad is hosted from, then enter it into you hosts file using 127.0.0.1 as the IP address. This way, when the browser tries to load the ad, it is redirected to your own computer - then it can't find the ad so it just puts a broken link icon where the ad would be. You'd be surprised how much time it takes to load banner ads. Annyway, it may take a while to get a formidable list going, but it's worth it. Anyone can have my list who wants it:

RedHotAnt: I paid £40 for the first year, and £10 a year after that. It's unmetered access at offpeak times, and the connections are fast, once you get one. At peak offpeak times (if you see what I mean), it can take a LONG time to get connected, but every time it gets like that, they fix it again. It has a 3 hour session timeout, as well.

Ahhh, a session timeoout. No chance of me using it then ;)

Aha, but: I use Download Accelerator, so that long downloads just get resumed automatically, since if the connection drops, it keeps trying until it's up again. (ie, leave it all night!)

That's all well and good for file downloads, but I play online games and disconnects are not something you want at a critical moment ;)

I play online games, but never for longer than about an hour, or my testosterone and adrenaline levels go through the roof, and I end up doing the same :).

*Chuckle* I'm an Allegiance junkie personally. Used to be UO but it's far too evil. It steals all your time.
