I have a three computer network, a Win98, 95, and an XP Pro.

The Win98 can see both computers, but the win95 can't see the XP, and the XP can't see the 95, and the XP machine can't ping the 95 by hostname, but it can by ip. (for some reason win95's can't ping by hostname? )

Maybe cuz the XP drives ae NTFS? Maybe you should upgrade the 95 machine to 98. I dont htink 95 has good experiences with networking.

I've had this problem before...make sure they are all set to the same Subnet Mask...fixed it for me..

Well it can't be the subnet, as the Win98 can see the win95 and the Win98.

Its something to do with how the Win95 is setup, and I'm reluctant to upgrade it to 98 cos its a serious pile of ****, and may well not handle it.

I don;t think this may be it, but would you need NetBEUI installed? .... Im just thinking back to when I had 95 networked WOW, THAT WAS ALONG TIME AGO. Now I'm strictly XP Pro and Home and 2000 Pro.

XP is so great for networking

Solved it, I had to remove all of the networking stuff in the Network settings and re-add it, but its working like a charm.

A well spent 10 hours of frustration for an extra 10gb of storage. :p

You may not know *** it is, but if it's being shared, you can use it. That's why Macs can use and write files to PC and vice versa.
