How about adding a 'watch this thread' command, to notify you by email when the thread changes, just for people that have read the thread but have not posted to it. I have often seen a question asked but unanswered, that I would like to see the solution to when it's posted.

I think you can achieve that by posting an answer and then deleting the answer.
