    hpmdinst.msi file missing [RESOLVED]

I have an HP desktop, XP home, with HP printer & scanner.

Some of my home-grown VB programs constantly complain that they can't find the file "hpmdinst.msi" "HP Memories Disc".

These same programs run fine on my other PCs, though none of those are XP.

I've scanned several systems, several CDs, and the web for this file. Nothing. DogPile had one hit - in Chinese.

Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
It's not fatal, but it is very annoying.

    Thanks, DaveBo

    Question Corrupt comctl32.ocx ?

I've narrowed this down to programs that use
    comctl32.ocx "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 5.0 (SP2)"

    Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks, DaveBo

    using old control

Found the problem, or should I say – the solution.

The offending programs are some carry-overs that I originally wrote in VB5 and have subsequently recompiled under VB6.

    I replaced "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 5.0 (SP2)" COMCTL32.OCX
with "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 6.0 (SP6)" MSCOMCTL.OCX
    and all is well.

    Re: hpmdinst.msi file missing [RESOLVED]

Hi DaveBo - I know this is avery old post, but I am having a similar problem with a VB program supplied to us from a supplier. It too complains it can't find the file "hpmdinst.msi" "HP Memories Disc" on an XP machine.

Could you please tell me exactly how you replaced "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 5.0 (SP2)" COMCTL32.OCX
with "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 6.0 (SP6)" MSCOMCTL.OCX

    Many Thanks
