    Laptop Hard Drive

My bosses laptop hard drive got messed up. And he cant boot. So he bought a new hard drive and got it put in his laptop and windows installed. Everything is fine and dandy with that part. But he wants me to see if i can get any data from the old hard drive. Queston 1) will that hard drive plug into a normal computers ribbon cable? 2) It doesnt have any jumpers with it, so how can i make it a slave?

Check out this page to see what I'm talking about here:

The idea is.... you can get a device which fits into a CD-ROM bay in the front of your pc which holds any IDE or ATA hard drive type you want, you just slide out & remove the middle part, shove in your bosses laptop drive & hook it back up.

As for the 2nd bit, not sure - you could try either looking the drive specs up on the net for this to see where the jumpers are, or try wiring it to the above & seeing if it's picked up as an auto detect or secondary drive already...

alternatively you could send it to a company that specialises in that sort of thing - the company I work for sends drives&disks to them, and we always get the data back.

just search the phone book (or the net) for "data recovery" companies in your area.

1)No it won't you need to get a converter kit. They are usually like 10 bucks. Your normal 40/80 pin connector in your desktop is too big for the 2.5" notebook drive so it has a smaller one.

    2) Usually laptop hard drives are locked in the "master" position.
