cant see included files?

hey i was looking at some of the source code on PHP.net for templates and just looking about in general, then i noticed about the layout. the pages call functions in a page called layout.php, but nowhere on the page i was looking on was the include(); bit.

how does it get the functions if there isnt an include? im pritty new to php so excuse my stupidity.
