Thread and Reply ....

Here is another thought for the administrators:

When a thread is displayed in the browser along with all replies, it itself takes much time (especially threads on Bible!). If I want to reply to it, the reply window appears with all the posts for that thread. Can we have it in such a way that when a thread is displayed, at the end of all posts, we shall have the username, password and reply boxes. So as soon as we view a thread, we don't have to click on Post Reply. We shall simply put our reply in and Submit Reply. I know talking about this is simpler and you will find some difficulty in coding, but it is quite useful. I can open important threads in new windows, disconnect, write my replies, connect again and submit all replies. It will save on our telephone bills (You see, I am in India. We have to pay for the internet connection, for the telephone and taxes, too!!)

It could be your modem connection. I have a 56K modem and everything looks fine for me. As soon as I hit the reply button, it brings me to the appropriate screen. Another thought is that maybe there are a lot of people logged on to your ISP at the same time you are. There are programs you can get (http://www.inklineglobal.com) that will optimize your modem, up to 300%. That can make a 56K run like DSL.

I've noticed the same thing and I'm on a cable modem. On very large threads I think it has more to do with the time it takes the browser to render then download. I notice this especially in Netscape.

I have cable modem too and I have no problems (I didn't have them even on my 56k of my laptop). The problem may be use of Netscape because, at least in my case, it did slow down the reply to large threads. I guess I'll just stay with IE 5.5

Yup, Netscape 4 can be a bit slower then IE when it comes to rendering, especially nested tables.

Let's keep the time factor out of it for the moment:

Think of it this way: When you are viewing the thread and when you are posting a reply to it, the browser contains the entire thread with all its replies. In the reply part, however you also get the three text boxes and a text area.

Thus, my browser already contains the thread and the replies. For submitting my reply, however, my browser again has to fetch the same details that it has been displaying me, plus a little more. Now for this little more stuff, why should the browser be made to download the page once again, when it can be avoided?
