Senator Hatch - Let's Kick Him
http://news.com.com/2100-1028_3-1018845.html?tag=fd_top
You know the guys not going to get it to happen, but I still want to kick him in the head for trying.
Read the last paragraph...it's the best.

He probably doesn't know enough about computers/P2P to be able to judge this accurately.
Most likely he's in the pockets of the RIAA. Or just a dickhead.
Man...I wonder what kind of international incident it will be if someone at a foriegn embassy or whatever downloads something, they mess up the comptuer, and destroy sensetive files, all to protect corporate America from losing $15 for a CD.

I like the last paragraph. That guy's clueless. If there was a loophole that allowed a remote person to "destroy" a computer, we would have some lovely viruses in short order.

I think he was more making a point than really looking forward
to destroying people's computers. The government would not
be allowed to do this.
The point being, we all know that downloading the Beatles'
greatest hits from KAAZAA is stealing, right?

You know that buying a CD with 12 songs for $16 when you only want one of them is a ripoff, right?

I second this....
I like the way Apple is doing things. I have NO problems paying 1 dollar per song. This is fair to me. If I happen to want all 10-15 crappy songs from the latest teen crap they put out, then I pay 10-15 dollars. Still about the same. This way, artists only get paid for the songs that people like. No more of this one hit to sell a CD crap.

personally i think cd and songs should be free cause if the fans like you enough that they want to listen to your music then they will go to your concert and by other merchendise like t-shirts and stuff like that. the artists dont even make that much of the cd adn stuff its all from the concerts so they should jst go on tour more often. and give away the cds to get more fans to like them.
jst my 2 cents.

Yes, I am quite aware of that. especially when CD production is a fraction of the cost that
tapes used to be!
I won't deny that $16 for a CD is fleecing the public, and it's not a good buy
for those of us who want just a single song from a CD.
I like the way apple is doing it.
My point is that Kazaa is, essentially 99% illegal activity.

Everyone's a criminal. There isn't anybody out there who hasn't at one point broken a law. Most of us even do it daily.
We pick and choose which law to break, and then by doing so, suffer the consequences.
I would be willing to suffer the consequences if caught doing something illegal.
My girlfriend is 17 years old, and I am 19, going on 20. For the past two years of our relationship, I have been dating her "illegally." And although her parents have no problem with it and like me, if someone were to throw a fuss about it, I would glady suffer the consequences of dating her.
I do not always obey the speed limit, and have, in the past, suffered consequences of such. I continue to do so.
I do not even use CDs. The only time I listen to music is on my computer. So, if I were to buy a CD, I would simply rip it and listen to it on my computer. That doesn't seem right to me when I can just download it, and pick the songs I want, and not all of them.
I suppose I would suffer the consequences if caught for this.
It was Hawthorne's philosophy that if one does not agree with a law, one must first break that law, and then suffer the consequences for doing so.
He spent a night in jail for refusing to pay his taxes, and would have done so longer had someone else not paid them for him.
I know very well that my downloading songs is illegal. But I do not see myself harming anybody. If internet file sharing did not exist, I still wouldn't buy the CDs. I would have no use for them.
