file sharing, gnutella, napster

I am new to VB and am learning it now. I want to write an application similar like napster or gnutella but for text files and under my own label. Can anyone help me, with the basics? It looks like the idea is simple. Share a directory, connect to a IP node, via this node look for more nodes to make the network larger, then search all the nodes and list the results. When you click on a result, you download that text file. Who can help me with something like this?

I assume that this one is "buffering" by storing the files on URL = "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
