ADSL Router
Hello Everyone,
I have go Broadband connection from BT(Home 500), and it comes with Alcatel SpeedTouch usb ADSL Modem. Currently i am sharing the connection with three pcs(through a hub). But the problem is i hav to keep my main PC(the one that the modem is connected to it) on all the time. So i was thinking of getting a router, which i was told will solve my problem.
Now can u guys recomend me a good router (4 port) and it has to have USB support as my modem is USB.
Thanks for your help.

It would just be easier to get a new modem as well.

Hi Sastraxi,
Thanks for your response. Yes it would be easier, but that would mean me forking out extra £80-£100 on the modem and plus the Router !!
I am sure there are few router with USB support, i found couple but they only have 1/2 ports. I am looking for a minimum of 4 ports.
If any one knows of any such router then please let me know.
Thanks.

If the router is smart enough to do DHCP for more than 2 connections then you can just stick a hub on the router as well.
Or you could daisy chain another router to it....but thats getting inelegant and expensive.
Then again ADSL USB is inelegant in the first place...

I've got a Conexant ADSL Router for my BTopenworld Home 500 ADSL - the router has an inbuilt modem in it, so that physically connects to the ADSL line, but also has a USB socket if you want to link up the fish modem.
I got it from Maplins, around the £125 mark.
Cheers

Monday Morning Lunatic
The Speedtouches *have* to have a PC...I have one, been running 24/7 in my router PC for months now without too many problems (woohoo for OpenBSD). Only problem is that Alcatel are being gits about the microcode, so when the connection goes odd you have to physically unplug the modem >:-(
The all-in-one routers aren't that bad these days.

I got a D-Link DSL504 Modem/Router last year for around £90. I think I got it from www.ebuyer.com . It has 4 Ethernet ports & a DSL modem built in, and unlike all that dial-up nonsense every time you log off or reboot with the stupid frog, it just connects when you turn it on and it stays on all day.
