hai everyone :D
i partioned my hard disk( using FDISK) into 2 equal halves, the C:, i installed windows 2000 and the D:(logical part) i installed windows 98. during the boot option, win2000 is the default OS to boot to, and am tired of staying by to change it to win 98(i use 98 almost all times). i tried changing the active partion(still using FDISK to D: where i installed my win98) so that i can put on the system, walk away and come back 2 see the win98 login screen. the problem now is that my system does not boot any more unless i change back my active partion to C:(where i have Win200). i want to set win98 as the default OS , please how can i do this?

You're using the 2K bootloader on the MBR? Dont' change the "active partition", just change the default boot target in boot.ini (c:\boot.ini should be it) to Win98.

But why would you use Win98? Its pants.

Pants? I prefer Kakhis, white/beige, most any decent quality brand is fine :p

O/S? Get XP or 2K.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

This is exactly what i have in the boot.ini file, i don't want 2 personally edit it so that i won't run into a ditch. so, tell me what 2 edit here 2 change the default OS Booting 2 windows98

it depends on your partition setup and such...i haven't acutally played with boot.ini enough (I use GRUB, not hte NT bootloader) to know "exactly" what to do

this is acutally really weird since installing windows on a system that alreayd has a windows installation should give you two entries in there.....

btw even if you screw up you can insert the NT/XP/2K cd, go into the recovery console, and use FIXMBR.
