What do the record companies expect? If they charge large amounts for their music, then people are gonna try and find alternatives to shelling out for it.

for example, in the UK, an average chart album now costs around £15. Hmmmm. Now, CD's cost about 10p to manufacture, probably say about £1 to ship to a shop, and then BAM! FOR SALE £15! :(

Why are these prices necessary? it comes down to one thing: PURE GREED on the record companies behalf.

When you're 16, you don't wanna be paying £15 for an album containing about 8 tracks. If the record companies don't want people using Napster, then they should re-think their own policies on music sales.

napster is an excellent service, and I hope they battle on and win the right to continue doing what they do: Providing an honest service that serves the music community well.

That's my opinion. other's welcome.

So since there banning napster for trading supposedly illegal mp3's (because someone somewhere had to pay for the mp3.)Then why not ban recordable tapes and cd's eh? It's basically the same thing. So it is illegal to take a record that I BOUGHT with MY MONEY and record some songs to a blank tape eh? and use it how i see fit? so not only do they make you pay a exaggerated price for a cd, they also want to keep control of what you do with it after YOU bought it? it all comes down to greed plain and simple...
and there's another word for greed it's called METTALICA
i never liked them and i never will they suck, they have sucked from day one..so know that there gabillionares they are gonna ***** cause some people are trading there crap music for free? I mean how much money do you have to have???

Burn on james hetfield opps i mean rock on hehehehehe..

Too bad.
But, now we (the human race) can just go back to getting MP3s the same way we did before Napster came around. The search engines and websites.

http://mp3.box.sk

http://www.2look4.com

Traders of the world unite! D/L an FTP server and make your mp3s available! Also use Gnutella!

But, of course, every mp3 I have came off one of my own cds... Of course...

Personally I use MP3s to judge whether I like the music before I buy it. That's the honest truth. I download recommended astists' tracks and if I like the music then I'll buy the album. And Metallica is pretty good IMO, but you're right, the band themselves suck ass. They are ass suckers. They see ass and they suck it *Loud sucking noise* ;) (Hope someone watches South Park)

I was very surprised at the ruling, since Napster does not hold the copyrighted material, it is transferred between clients. Perhaps it is stored temporarily on the server, which would make it illegal I guess.

This is even more stupid than when Demon Internet got sued for defamation when someone made defamatory comments about someone else on it's news servers. The world has gone mad.

HarryW,

I totaly agree with you,
there was this one song I heard on the radio before, I kind of liked it, but i downloaded an MP3, which was the CD version(cussing...) and I REALLY liked it, so I went and bought the CD, I wont tell you the name of the song because someone might make fun of me.... :o

but I have done that for at least 4 songs, if I wouldnt have had napster, I wouldnt have bought either of the 4 cd's...

I used to like metalica but harryw is right, they are ass suckers, if they see an unsucked ass, they suck the sh*t out of it.... hehehehe ;)

I guess they(matilca) should stop making songs, because the song "seek and destroy" influenced them to seek napster, and destroy it...
its not like metlica is actually selling cd's anymore, I havent seen a person buy a metalica cd for at least a year....
well I havent been monitering the CD stores either, but I have not seen any of their(metlica) move at all, people dont even look at them anymore(you can tell when people look at cd's because they put them in upside down, or in another section or something)

just my $.02

This is NOT the end of Napster! All Napster has control of is its servers, not everyone else's servers. All you have to do is get napigator from www.napigator.com and you won't have to worry about it.

BTW: Even if Napster DID get shut down completely, an even better one would pop up no more than a month later, that's a guarantee.

Ok, ive got a solution to this, and im being really serious. We boycott CD's. They did it with the buses and it worked. We just stop buying CD's until they let napster go back to work. I think it would work.

I dont think you quite understand....sure if you boycott the bus system you will get what you want....but where talking about music. To me personally music is way more important than the bus...and am sure it is to some other people as well...music is more important than a bus..
i get your point totally but i dont think boycotting the music industry will get us anywhere.

Jul 28th, 2000, 12:32 AM
Not the music industry, just dont buy CD's. If you want a song, then download it from a website. This will make them either lower their prices, or legalize napster.

No need to do any of that..like said above there will be different versions of napster..and besides go to a search engine and look for "Napigator" it's a prog that shows all the napster servers ..but some arent run by napster? make any sense? hehe so dont worry about napster servers..
the underground ones will still be around.

I think it is time for Napster's Server to be moved from the US into the Caribbean :) no more trouble from the US Courts then... ;) ;) ;)
