'device not ready' error on win98 machine when trying to read a cd-rom

    Arg.
CD itself is okay. No problems in device manager.
Cables are okay. CD-ROM spins up the CD when its put in first.

As soon as I click on the CD-ROM to go into it it just gives that error.
So there is something afoot methinks...

I remember this happened to me a lot in Win98 days , when I swap CDs . At the end I changed the device and worked great .So it maybe a physical problem with the CD drive .

Does it play audio CDs well? (put in an audio CD, press next track, plugin headphones)

I've run into that problem also... I think a reformat fixed it (it was due anyway).

I have to give my drive a few sec. to spin up before it will reconize it.

Do you have a Zip drive installed?
