VB.NET is not Visual Basic!!!!!!!!
I've seen too many questions and statements on this forum from people who assume VB.NET is nothing more than the next Visual Basic. I'm getting sick of it!
VB.NET is not Visual Basic. Its an entirely different and new programming language that, IMO, is much easier and better than VB6 in EVERY way. You just need to take the time to learn the language, the .NET framework, and the IDE from a REAL book (not just some bits of documentation on the web).
Here is what .NET is about:

Hehe. Your right. Maybe I should have said Visual Basic .NET
I guess I wrote it too quickly. However, since the name of this forum is "VB.NET", It shouldn't be too confusing to the newbies, should it?
EDIT:
Haha, there really is a vb.net website, but unfortunately that one's not related to programming.

Well i also just started with VB.NET, and i have to say it is not easier then VB6. Maby becose i am an beginner...
And it sure is entirely different, C#, C++, VB, ASP, all in one window. I like VS.net more then VB6, good layout, etc. but u will need to learn about the changes with vb6.
One negative point on vs.net: it is slow :/
Anyone got tips to make it go faster? (i know my pc sux)
There's a certain mystique when I speak, that you notice that it's sorta unique, cause you know it's me

yes
I dont believe its esier than vb 6... but im such a noob too so thats perhaps the problem.. but its sure different, you got that right... and I also think its really slow... that sux.. but the most annoying thing with it, is that from time to time, the keyboard either changes keylayout.. or it doesnt respond to commands at all until I run a form and then close it.. whats wrong then?

Well said Hu. I wanted to say it, but I was trying to hold it back after the anti- VB .NET post the other day! LOL
You know what gets me, is that VB .NET really is no harder than VB6, it is just a bit different. No big deal. People that complain, are those that dont want to learn something new, which is a bad attitude to take as a developer.

VB.NET is more more eaiser than VB6(for me at least ).The only thing I didn't like is ADO.NET which is pain that needs more code than usual ADO in VB6, ADO.NET has nice new features even though .anyways, check this site to see general differences between both .

I think the learning curve is steeper for those VB developers who have never used any other language.
Others that have used Java or C++ or other common OO languages will be much more at ease with stepping up to VB.Net (or any other .Net language) because the concepts won't be so foreign to them. They won't be scared away so easily.
With that said, I was kind of in the middle of the two ends. I picked it up in 2 weeks and was actually producing good code. Not an expert though, still have ways to go to call me that.
My personal opinion is that no matter how hard it is to learn .Net for the programmer, they would be better off knowing it than not knowing it.
