Cool Instant Messenger with Online Database

I was thinking about making an instant messenger just like MSN/YAHOO/AIM etc, with really could be called as an INSTANT MESSENEGR. That is : Most of the programmers create Chat Clints which need the other persons IP address and then they chat over the Inter protocol. That is really foooooolish. How can a person give his buddy his IP ? I mean that a messenger should be created with real database, usernames,Passwords and the database would automatically provide the users the IP addresses.

Anyone interested in this project ?
The difficult part is to create an online database that can be edited by VB application.

Well um..not like my opinion matters anyways, but I would not make the server in VB, rather C# =), and an online database editable by vb is not hard to do..as well most don't work with just an ip, that would be a peer-to-peer messanger, not really a full featured one at that..

btw i'm already working on something along these lines..just wait and see hehe

Or just make a chat client that connects to their netbios name

though via a database is what all the big ones are doing right now.. (MSN, ICQ, Partially Trillian, AIM, etc)

But I only got one question... Why??
There are literrally millions of these projects..
