Can I play PS2 or Xbox games CDs to my deskbop/laptop computer? [Ans:- usually No]

I often see lots of PS2 and Xbox games in the store. I don't have either of them. But my question is, can I play PS2 or Xbox games in my PC? Or I need to buy those consoles first?

If they can be played in a normal computer, why do people buy game consoles then?

You can play Playstation 1 games on your PC.
you need and PS1 emulator and the rom chip
the chip is still copyrighted by Sony so having it on your PC
is illegal.
For PS1 games you need a fairly high spec PC.
I doubt if anyone has got around to emulating properly any
of the latest consoles.

Because they cant without special software called emulators. no emulators exist for PS2 and Xbox yet. PS2 is in development but it will be at least a year before commercial games can be played on it.

And in response to the title of the thread, PS2 and Xbox games are on DVD's not CD's :)

Some PS2 games are still on CDs (don't ask me why - the PS2 runs DVDs much smoother).

And a game console is cheaper than a good video card, and there's an interesting article in a recent issue of CPU magazine that argues that the graphics technology in an Xbox is better performing than that of a PC.

Its a hopped up GF3, running on an optimized version of DX8(.1) that will only run with the card it was designed for. A new version of DirectX is released ~every November, and new video cards come out every 6 months or so. The XBox is going to be "old tech" in a few months.

No, read the article if you get a chance - it presents a different side to this argument - how the Xbox shares video and system memory differently than a PC, etc. I'm not necessarily agreeing with the article, I'm just saying its an interesting read.

Reason why it's so much faster is because there are no drivers, per se; the routines run and actually transmit data to and from the components themselves. So, even though it's a PIII 733/~GF3 chip, it acts more like a PIII 1.13 ghz (laptop chip)/GF3 Ti500 (maybe). Drivers certainly are the slowest thing, and getting rid of them does a world of good. That's why iMacs and such can run so fast at low speeds (~500 mhz).

Ah, cut the backup is illegal/legal talk, just pirate if you want. sbasak, basically theyre are programs named emulators that LET you play those without console on your computer but they are slower, then again some have good features like netplay, like playing metal slug online, theyre are no programs yet for the newer consoles though. But when and if they do make an emulator for xbox or ps2, you will need a really good PC to run the games as good as the consoles, although I don't think the games will run as good as the consoles, anytime soon. I quit consoles a long time ago though, I just.. hate singLe player and the new netplay features of xbox and ps2 arent really that great (compared to a pc, remember DC q3?)

As a note. There is a PS2 emulator that STARTS loading Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. But that is all, still a long way from playing games.
