Format HD
I've got 2 HDs, the master hd has the OS (Win98 ) and the slave is just extra storage. I'm planning on reformatting the master hd and reinstalling windows on it. I want to leave the slave alone. I just want to make sure that when i do the reformat/reinstall, the new copy of windows will still read all the files on the slave hd, and all the files will still be there.
just looking for alittle reassurance...
thanks.

as long as it is the same file system (fat or ntfs)(I assume you are putting win98 back on) then it will be fine. For reassurance that you dont format the wrong drive just unplug the slave Thats what I do sometimes.
I'm off to GalahTech, hope to see you there.

Disagree!
Doesn't matter what file system the slave drive has... FAT32 is the lowest anyway, so any other OS would read the drive's data.
If you are re-installing 98SE, make sure you haven't installed any packages onto the slave drive, as it may add registry entries you will lose when you format.
Note:
FAT32 can read other FAT32 partitions, but not NTFS (Without a third party controller)
NTFS can read other NTFS partitions as well as FAT32.
It's the whole 'backwards compatability' saga again!
HAVocINCARNATE29...
You have nothing to worry about! Make sure you format the correct drive, and you'll be fine.

Paul.
