Cheap Mofo *Sold
Hi.. I am a cheap mofo. specially around xmas.
Can someone help me choose?
I need to upgrade my computer.. (just bough warcraft.. and my pc wont run it )
I figure I can upgrade my MOther board, Chip, video card.
I dont want a frickin rocket launcher or nothing.. I just wanna play some games.
My system now is
196ram
500 celeron (ouch..)
Sis6326 8meg vga agp. (wonder why I am having problems)
Any help appreciated.. oh ya, budget.. 0$ (so anything on top of that will be painful but doable)
Thanks Seahag

you can usually find good mobo/chip combos. Get something like an Athlon XP 1800. That is a 1.5 ghz approx. and would be more than enough. Would cost about 100$. and for a vid card, you could get a geforce 2 or 3 really cheap, or for about 80$ you can get a geforce 4 MX.

Go for the video card. Im running on a similar system, and its the video card that lets you play the games. Make sure you get something that has Hardware T&L (just look on the box), because that takes a load off your CPU, and so, you dont have to upgrade that.

Video Card, no doubt. Your current config is sufficient for a non-rocket launcher class PC.

Dont want a dell!
hehehe.
I am thinking that i need ram and sound and video with
AMD 1800 package.
Why is AMD cheaper than the others..
I though it was a premium product line..

its not so much AMD is cheaper, but it is that Intel overcharges. They are sort of like MS. For awhile they were the big kid on the block so they virtually had a monoploy so they could charge what they wanted.

most mobos have built in sound these days so you dont really need another sound card unless you really want to get one of those high end sound systems.

I looked again...
YOur right.. and it has on board video..
I wonder if thats enough video?
Is it hard to upgrade an integrated board like that.. like if you wanted to put a video card in it?
?

integrated video is usually low end. Not good enough for gaming.
and no its not hard. Just stick in the new video card and switch the monitor cable to it. Usually make sure the mobo has an AGP slot also(all current mobos probably have it) which is what most video cards are made for these days if you plan on adding a seperate video card.

i am pondering this.... i guess its out together for the complete
solution..
The problem i am running into with my computer
is the support.. IT BLOWS!
cant find anything..
Do you think i will run into those problems if i go with that?

You may want to call them and ask what support they offer if any. Plus the motherboard will come with a manual which will probably give you contact info for the motherboard manufacturer which can offer support.
By the way, is your current computer something like a Dell?
if so you may need to get a new case too because more than likely it wont fit.

no..it was made...
i suggest no problems switching out the mobo..
if wors comes to worse..... i will lay all the components out all over my living room. .. and hook them up with cut up extension cords
You should see my stereo in the van

"You should see my stereo in the van "
I can imagine. Had cables all over the place when i put in a CD player into my first car years ago. The CD player wasnt even mounted, just lying down behind the stick shift.
