Hi John.
I just wanna say you run a great helpful VB site.
BUT !!!! (please read it VERY loudly),
WHY DONT YOU RUN SOME CHAT PROGRAM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
this site is not like it was in the past.
in the PAST, there were about 2 ppl connected at the same time. Realize, today, the site is getting bigger and bigger, and there are about 8-10 ppl online at the same time almost always.
chat section in the site will put this site in top of top of the VB sites.
Please think about it, I (and more ppl) requested it already 2 months ago.
If it's the program achieving problem, just search the net, and I'm sure you'll find some chat programs for free for webmasters.

Please, it will be good for all of users and for this site rating.

Or maybe we could have a program. Someone could make one program for everyone to use. John, could you make a chat section? I think that would be fun! Thanks :)

Topics like this should be in the Forum Feedback.

Give the guy a "Guru" title and he thinks he owns the place!

hahhahaha, actually I'd like a chat section too!

Oh well, time for another scotch.

Add your voice there, l think John mentioned they were working towards it. Personally l don't really care about a chat room on this site, but if other's want it convince John and James.

Jethro, Your sig is turning into political propergander! Howard does suck, but does his name have to appear in a VB forum ???

:D

Chat would be nice, easier.

How many posts does it take to be a 'Guru'?

Paul282
Jul 7th, 2000, 03:36 AM
1024 I think but it's not automatic like the other levels, Admin will make you a guru depending on some criteria of there own if your posts are high enough and (assumably) your posts indicate you know what you're doing.

Kedaman and Meg didn't get their Guru status till well past 1500 posts I don't think.

John, Can you be made a Pseudo-Guru or a Quasi-Guru after 1024 till you get awarded your full Guru-hood? :D

For those of you who have mIRC or similar, try this.

Description: VBWorld Chat
IRC Server: london.uk.eu.undernet.org
Port: 6667

Connect to the server and type /join #vbworld

The criteria is simple...They won't count the post they
post in Chit chat and other off topic forums. Megatron and
kedaman were delayed in getting their status b'cos they made
so many chit-chat posts which were counted in the number of posts but not for the GURU status... so..the bottom line is
you need 1024 (or something like that) genuine posts excluding chit chats.

That as far as i am aware is incorrect.

The posts in the Chit Chat simply do not count at all. i.e they never get added to the post count in the first place.

May be they deduct 2 or more posts for each
useless post in the chit chat. If not...
John , U should definitely consider my Idea and
reward me a GURU status for that.. :-)

a lot of places dont have them cause chats kill servers...

Jul 7th, 2000, 08:40 AM
It interests me that John doesn't seem to have come to this post at all :D Maybe he did look but thought better of it!! :)

Jul 7th, 2000, 08:50 AM
Ha, har! I am your evil nemesis, the chat. Die server, die!! :D

My only problem with having a chat room is those that are not currently connected lose out on the wealth of knowledge being exchanged.

People will tend not to post their questions if they get an answer right away through the chat sessions.

Maybe there would be a way to archive the chat room.

My 2 cents...

Yeah, I think we should still have a chit chat forum. I like to see what everyone is talking about. Maybe the chat can be logged, and we can download the log for different tmes.

steve65 made a good reply. Yes for a Chat but our dear administrators should allow us to get the subject of the chat. Great idea.

PS: I don't wanna be pathetic but I think vb-world isn't a race to determinate the first who will obtain the Guru status! My point, of course.

He would get a reply faster if he had posted there instead.

All of them were deleted.

Could some1 tell John to read this thread?
I mean, it wont help if we yell just between ourselves.
John, come-on, the users want Chat-Room.
We really wanna know more about each other.
That's why we need a chat room.

Hope for a positive answer,

Post a link in the Feedback section that leads to this topic.

Gimme a chance - I'm here now.

As Megatron suggested, this should have been posted in the feedback forum - I would have seen it a lot sooner in that way. You would also have noticed that there is already been discussion about a chat room in the feedback forum, in which I said that it is in progress.

Also, for the record, Guru status is based on merit, not on number of posts.

All the best!
John

Jul 7th, 2000, 02:48 PM
Yay! Can I be a guru? (Based solely on my lack of merit and useless posts!? :) )

Oh c'mon. I deserve Guru.

After all, John did say he would be my best friend ;)

(Yes, I do still remeber that particular thread!)

Where is Batman, or Robin, not that it matters since they are the
same person, or so the rumour in Gotham City goes.

Have changed my signature to remove all references to our belovered leader.

The "Combat Programming" reference will become clearer once we get our web site up and running. Basically we have raised some cash to run an online programming competition. The sort of thing where a small program is requested, and who ever wants involvement gets 24 hours to design and post. The best one winning a cash prize.

John
Please can we have an award for the most pointless posting on this site:):):):):) Could also award an anti-Guru status. Anyone else agree with this

Just out of intrest who is John Howard? Apart from a bloke who sucks. Unfortunatley the only exposure us pommes get to oz life is through Neighbours, which I don't think is a very accurate representation.

Jul 10th, 2000, 09:41 PM
John Howard is our Prime Minister...the dickhead who is currently spending tax payers money to stuff up in England.

Could you guys keep him, we'll swap John for Billy Connelly.

Also we will throw in the odd cricketer to help you out. Fancy lossing to the kiwis, (only just saw a program of highlights about the game).:):):):):):)

We haven't even started on rubbishing Alexander Downer yet, what till you see that installment.

I know a bloke in Leicster who'll take his kneecaps off for £50. Is he just having a holiday over here Spending your money or Is he doing something useful, As for Cricket They moved the Cricket over to the Comedy Channel earlier this year and I've given up on hoping that we win at any sport ever.

Jul 10th, 2000, 11:56 PM
Clearly this prestigous event is well worth celebrating in London rather then Sydney....or it might have to do with the f**king new tax system he left us with:(:(:(

Well, It's well known that you lot don't like our weather or our beer, so take some consolation that he's wet and sober.

Jul 11th, 2000, 04:36 PM
Who's Alexander Downer, anyway?

Must say I'm a Guiness man, myself...although I don't drink much :) ...or sould that be a :( ?

Just out of interest... how much are you paying the Wizard for petrol down there in Oz?

Jul 11th, 2000, 06:06 PM
Alexander Downer is our Foreign Affairs Minister, who makes Andy Pandy seem like a mental giant.

Petrol is running at approx 88c a litre for non-leaded, (Sydney North Shore), price goes up the further bush you go.

Todays Political Lecture

Why didn't Alexander Downer stop his email account from being spammed?

Cos his mom hasn't taught him how to use the keyboard yet.

You've been on a role Jethro I see, I've been sunning it in Okinawa for a week so my posting's been lax. I read about Johnny escaping to the UK during the GST release, Aparently Tony Blair called Aussie troops yanks! slip of the tongue, tried to coverup by saying the there were lots of good hardy allies during the war! ******, he should have been shot.

Tell me more about this competition! (I could use the extra cash :D)
