How do I monitor Phone Line

Can someone please tell me how to monitor the phone line through VB6.
Is it possible to do this using VB? I would like to have a go at writing a small utility which will allow me to monitor the phone line while surfing the net and have a warning pop up when someone dials my phone.
I would also like to see the number of the caller displayed.

Can anyone help ?

If you're in the states talk to your local RBOC or your local phone monopoly company if outside the US, the tones for call waiting are different for many of the providers and even then not supported by many modems. A lot of modems will lose packets or drop the line when those tones come through, I think you'll need to investigate the vendor hardware/provider issues before worrying about VB.

Either way, you may be able to make a program that works with some modems and some providors but you'd need a huge "Choose your modem" and "choose your provider" list if you wanted to make the software available to the general public, free ot not.
