Allow more simultaneous downloads?

I'm running WinXP Home edition and my Internet Explorer will only allow 2 simultaneous downloads at a time. Is there a way to increase this number? I'm mean I'm on a cable connection so I shouldn't have a problem bumping up this restriction.

Any help would be appreciated..

There does seem to be a restriction on a single web site of 2 downloads, but when I was trying to download from multiple web sites, the limit was 2 on my computer, but now I can download a max of 2 per each web site at a time.

You may be able to change it in the registry. I remember there is a key you can change that allows you to open more connections to a site (by law you are only allowed to use 4 or something), so maybe there is one for this too. Or alternatively use something like GetRight to do all your downloading.

I don't think there are any laws on maximum number of simultaneous connections to a website ;)

Well I read that on an MS page, I'm pretty sure of that. I could be wrong, but I'll try to find it.

Found it! http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;183110 - OK I was a bit wrong, it's not a law, but the HTTP 1.1 specification :D


WinInet will limit the number of simultaneous connections that it will make to a single HTTP server. If you exceed this limit the requests will block until one of the current connections has completed. This is by design and is in agreement with the HTTP specification and industry standards.


That page gives you info for changing it to make your Internet faster (possible ;)).

Heh. Well that's sort of true in the case of HTML (in the US anyway), i.e. if you don't make your pages accessible to people with disabilities they can sue you :eek: Think it only applies to businesses and organisations or something.

I think they should make it law for all pages to be XHTML with proper stylesheets -- this allows screenreaders to do their job properly as well. :)

download all ur files using some download manager.
that way u can dld them fast and as many as u want

one such dld manager is flashget which u can get at amazesoft.com
