I assume the following are okay.

Data cables snug in connectors at both ends.

Power connection snug.

Master/Slave jumpers correct.

Data cable connects pin one at both hard disk to pin one on Motherboard. Red side of cable should be pin one side.

If all of the above is okay, make sure that master disk is at the end of the cable, not connected to the middle. This is a common error that is often not mentioned in any manual, or is mentioned in some obscure place.

If you're struggling to install a hard disk...

1. Remove all other IDE devices of both Primary and Secondary channels, and reboot.

2. Make sure your motherboard is capable of taking the size of hard disk!!! If not, there maybe a flash file for the EPROM at your motherboard manufactures website.

3. Make sure you are using the correct DMA cable for the Hard Disk.. Ie... UDMA 33 / UDMA 66 / UDMA 100 / UDMA 133 / S ATA150

4. Is your PSU working OK? Could be you have a doggy connector or power supply...

5. Kill the CMOS. It maybe you have IDE Routing / Cache switched off in the BIOS, so a CMOS dump and a flash/kill would re-set everything. Make sure if you have a GFX card with specific settings in the bios, to reset them after, or your OS will not like it.

If you still cannot rectify the fault, please feel free to give me a call.

Paul.
