Try playing Half-Life. I believe it was one of the best games in 1999. Same with Microsoft Flight Sim.

Some old 2D games are the best. Dr. Riptide is pretty good. And some tennis game that I can't remember the title.

As people begin to flock in to my lovely discussion (I'm soo proud of myself) I would just like to add a little comment myself! If any one out there is at all interested would you please be kind enough to send me your opinions on the Quake III Vs Unreal Tournament debate, I don't know how big it is in the States but here in England I have spent many an hour amusing myself by listening to an argument on the subject. I personally have only played Quake III but am aching to see Unreal Tournament!

Dungeon Keeper is one of the best games I think :)

Also I'd recommend some Final Fantasy even it's with PlayStation resolution ;)

...and don't forget all those great NINTENDO games such as Secret of Mana :), SoM2 (Saiken Densetsu 3), ShadowRun :), Zelda :) and so on... I really like them ;)

I have to agree with Fox, Final Fantasy is an amazing game. It has amazing graphics and storyline. So if you want a good game get Final Fantasy VIII or prehaps wait for FF IX, go Enjoy.

Even though this is a quite cheesy game, I also like playing Mario Kart 64 and Need For Speed 3 and all of the Mortal Kombat series.

Mortal Kombat was great until part 4. The graphics and gameply are good, but the story line has faded away greatly. It does not match up with the rest of the series.

Need For Speed is great because I love racing games and I am into different kinds of Sports Cars. In addition to that, you can download cars and tracks off the internet to keep updated.

Mario Kart is an addictive game. Despite the fact that there are not many courses and drivers, and it is too easy, it is still fun trying to beat your own times and setting records.

Hey, if you want an RPG with great playability i sugest yuo look at Diablo. Though it is an old game I think it is great!!! It randomly creates every level and there are various quest that you need to complete.

Voting wise I would give my vote to Fox. I know I'm not a real big regular of this forum it is usually Fox that comes up with a good answer. Thanks Fox, and thanks to all those other people who have helped me along my way.

I think this thread belongs in chitchat, not in this forum..

Jul 6th, 2000, 07:42 AM
Yo Drewski, dis is da ray I've got Mechwarrior 3 (or more my brother has) I reckon it's quite cool and is a mass improvement on previous Mechwarrior games (My brother also has Mechwarrior 2 : Mercenaries) but my personal opinion is that it isn't that good a game, but that is just a matter of opinion I guess!

Yo Whiteghost, I know it belongs in the chit chat section but it is sort of relevant here and I figured that people would pay more attention here than in the chit chat section (hardly anyone goes there anyway) not that I getting defensive or anything (even I don't get upset that easily)!

Da Ray!

Jul 6th, 2000, 02:07 PM
Really.. that's cool.. except.. that this is for graphics/game programming, not graphics game discussion.. I understand that u're all happy and stuff because you finally get to post and get all kinds of pepole to come to your post, and then you say, oh look I"ve got so many people on my messgae. That's really not that creative (again I'm not being offensive, if u think so, then I'm sorry), that's called wasting board space.

Well you can continue whatever u want.. it's really not my business.. :)

Ah, I see. so you wanted to raise your post counts... that's why you posted this message here.. I see... Well really I didn't like being called a newbie or junior member or some **** like that either.. But.. i earned my position, by helping out and asking for help, I didn't start posts which didn't have anything to do with the forum they were in and stuff like that. Well, favourite games.

Old classics most of you won't have heard of.
Spy vs Spy
Buggy Boy
Wonder Boy In Monster Land
Ghosts And Goblins (a true classic)

Newer Ones
Driver (i love this game)
Final Fantasy
Gran Turismo 2
Unreal Tournament. (very cool)

Any way, i had my first go at internet gaming last night, and suffice to say i had my arse thoughroly whoped. I was playing Unreal Tournament, and i was just a moving target for everyone. When i did manage to get a frag, it was usually by catching someone just after a fight.

I also found myself suffering from the great problem that i am sure you have all experienced. Which problem is this? The one where you find yourself in the middle of a rocket launcher fight with what is technically refered to as a pee shooter. This in my case happens rather to much for my liking.

Any way if any of you were playing last night, and you took great pleasure in killing someone called Blade, then you just wait till i catch you with my pee shooter next time. ;)

Jul 10th, 2000, 06:22 PM
Descent Freespace was a challenging game and had a great story line also how the story line changed if you failed a mission that was a good effect. I played it like 4 times over and I screwed up a couple of times and got to play missions I hadn't even seen before!

Over all Descent Freespace and Grand Theift Auto were probably my favorites!

I'd have to say all of the Zelda series as my favorite games. Through the years they've managed to never be boring, always have a sense of adventure, for each one to be better than the last AND feature revolutionary game concepts and methods of gameplay and control. Not to mention they were never too hard, never too easy (this is assuming you tried to beat Zelda 64 with only three hearts, it's more difficult... but alot more fun) and they've always managed to make me happy, because clumsy story-lines and heavy-handed character designers never got in the way.

"Buy somethin' will ya'?"

Ummm... recent masterpieces like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark (A total change from Goldeneye, no matter what you say), and basically anything from Rare.

Computer games.... not really for me... they all just seem generic. Like not just anyone is allowed to publish a console game (although somtimes you wouldn't be able to tell...>:(), but anyone with some decent programming skills can market a PC game. At least by sticking with companies like Nintendo, Squaresoft, and Rare, I'm assured years of experience and designers who've made many mistakes, and learned from them.

Oh yeah... if that programmer thing is still going on I vote Fox. He's been more helpful to me in programming than anyone (with the exception of my CS teacher).

Have fun, and you two. Stop fighting... you know who I'm talkin' to....

Fox
Jul 11th, 2000, 01:15 AM
I totally agree, Zelda has the best stories included in the game. I mean, I play Diablo2 at the moment, but it's always the same thing: You go anywhere, kill the enemy and bring back some objects... That becomes boring! The only thing why I still play D2 are the new spells I can get :(
However, in Zelda it's never boring. You are 'in the game' and you always see a sense in what you're doing.

I also like Perfect Dark very much, even the graphic's not that good (Don't worry, it's only a N64 ;)). This game is more like James Bond than GoldenEye I think ;) You have SpyCams, IR scanners, Adrenalin... all these things make the game very interesting, also because of the storyline you have. (Even if GoldenEye is a very good game too ;))

ok, enough said, finally I want to tell you that Nintendo-games, no matter who made them, are often better than computer games... I don't know why and it's just my opinion, but I really think so. (Or what was the last PC game you played 'till the end?)

Guys...
If you are speaking about computer games, the name is STARCRAFT !
The BEST strategy game I ever had. Blizzard did a ****en great job!
And I say StarCraft is the best after I saw a lot (and I mean A LOT) of strategy games. some like:
- C&C (Tiberian-Sun and Red-Alert)
- StarTrek Armada (is based on StarCraft's engine)
- Knights & Merchants
- Majesty
- Warcraft (1 and 2)

and some more I dont remember.
Guys, remember, Strategy Game=STARCRAFT !
Go to Battle.Net and you'll realize why I'm giving all of these acomplemets to Blizzard Entertainment.

Ok, since this looked like a good discussion to join in on....albeit a bit late <g>. MY fav game has got to be Half Life, some of the mods for it make it a real treat. Counter Strike mod is a very good one. http://www.counter-strike.net
Also, this may sound wierd, but since it's free you might as well at least TRY it. Now free for ANYONE in the world and not just us Brits. A very good piece of programming if you want to look at it that way. http://www.mud2.00game.com go to the getting started part of my site and all will be revealed, just remember if you dare to pop in you may find you just never want to leave!

You say best games? Here are the ones I think are best: Diablo 2, Starcraft, Starcraft Expansion: Brood War (requaries Starcraft), and Tribes. I know Diablo 2 is the senqual to Diablo witch was game of the year. Diablo 2 is much better then Diablo. Starcraft was Game of the Year a few years ago(I think the first week it came out). Brood War was Expansion of the Year(First few weeks after it came out). I just know Tribes is a good game.

Well, that about sums it up for best games.

Have you seen the new game Sacrifice?
It looks REALLY good.

Aparently there is no icon bar, you control everything with movements on the mouse, even firing off spells.

The game is an RTS and looks like a Bizarre Nightmare (e.g my bedroom...) You have to battle and sacrifice your enemies to you God for resources for new troops etc. There is a very good video available
