Writing in text file (with php) ?

Hello,

i have just started to work with PHP, and i would appreciate
your help.

I need to know how to write (and read) to text file with PHP.
And first of all, is it even possible?

The main problem is to take variables values to text file, and
from that file i need to read them later to php pages.
