I want to know if the rumor i heard about installing the service pack 1 for vb.net will ruin my windows xp due to being a
pirated copy of xp/.net...any info would be welcomed!!!

I think the rumor is regarding the service pack 1 for XP itself not for VB.NET or the framework. The framework and VB.NET don't care what OS you are running.

NOTE: I'm not running XP so I can't tell you for sure.
