    dx8

    can someone tell me how to link dx8 sdk files to a c++ program? A link to a good tutorial would be great, also

    If you are using VC.NET, I think its Project->Add existing item.
    A good book on the subjects is Windows Game Programming for Dummies!

    do i need visual c++ for DX ... cuz i really don't feel like giving microsoft a ridiculous amount of money for a c++ compiler :\ i already wasted enough money on VB

    As far as i know, yes. Either VC or VB. But maybe you could use DevC++ from bloodshed.com.

    You can use it with any Windows compiler, though you will not be able to use the D3DX Library without MSVC (as far as I know, they might be distributing the new SDKs with libs for other compilers(though I doubt it =)).

    But actually the money you give MS for VC++7 is actually the only money that you can give MS that is not a waste IMHO. It's a wonderful application and really worth it's price. (prize? I always confuse them)

    I wouldnt mind giving MS money for Win2k, either, but that is about it =)
