Hi all,
Im trying to start an RPG game but i could use just a few pointers on where to start. Also if anybody know any good sites that have game art availible to download please let me know. Or if anyone would like to create some art for me that would be great too.
Thanks for all the help,
drewski
I'd think either that you need the grahpics (even if they're cheesy) before anything else. This probably won't take long because you can easily fix the graphics up later. Next you should move on to the Engine and then the Map Editor. Once you're done that, you can work on fixing the graphics and adding Music and Sound Effects to it.

Wouldn't I need to make the editor first? Because wouldnt you need a level map to test the engine on?
Also I was looking for a little bit more detail. Like would you go about making the engine and the editor?

I'm working on a RPG too and I started with the engine. Coz once you have the engine it's easier to find people to draw graphics for :D However, graphics, engine and game are very close to each other, I think it's possible to start anywhere... professional people have teams which work on these things and at the end they just put all together...
You can visit my homepage, there are some demo projects which may help you coding the engine, and here are some good links as I think:
GameDev.net (Great resource) (http://www.gamedev.net/)
Lionhead studios (best C/C++ forum I know) (http://www.lionhead.co.uk/)
The black hole (http://blackhole.thenexus.bc.ca/)

yo, dis is da ray. the best way in my mind to start an RPG is to get a very good story running, I am part of a RPG production company known as Harprobe. We have made an Rpg in Q-Basic and are on the way to making one in VB if you want to get in contact then leave a message for me in the general chit chat section.

As Fox said, the Grahpics and Engine are close to each other. I personally would do the graphics first. As I said before, these graphics are not the final copy. you can always re-do them later on. But for the time being, it gives you something to work with.
