I'm basically in need of some help developing an awesome Mail Server, this will be released free to the public of course. I need some help because I cant possibly do everything!

So far I have most of the smtp and pop code done, it works nicely =). I need someone to build an imap component or httpmail, etc. As well as perhaps someone who can work on a web mail interface in php.

Most of this will be coded in C#, so if your interested let me know! If you dont know c# and are willing to learn it then I might be willing to help you out.

Will it be coded in C# or PHP?> The web interface? And what exactly are you making? A "hotmail" type of thing or a "outlook" type of thing?

The smtp and pop components will be coded in c# while the webmail interface will be coded in php. It's a really cool project, I'm looking forward to finding some people to join up!

I still dont understand your project? smtp is a protocal like the www. What exactly are you working on? An SMTP Server? or a mail Client that uses SMTP and POP3 and HTTPMail?

I'm making my own server that will implement the protocols.

If you send an e-mail:

Mail.Yahoo.com > compose page
Send e-mail to > johndoe@hisdomain.com
hisdomain.com points to > 192.169.0.1
on that ip address lies the software that i'm developing
that software takes in < the e-mail from the yahoo servers..

Thats just a rough way to put it.

Php is the webmail side of things, like http://mail.yahoo.com it lets you check your e-mail and work with it etc...its just one part of the project, the rest will be/is in c# or an appropriate language.

cool! so are you making an API for someone to install on their server and provide email to their customers or are you trying to provide email to people? And if you are providing the emails to people, do you have the servers that will be needed to host the applications you are trying to write? Also, im interested in the PHP part of the project :)

Hey Momad,

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by api, but yes people will be installing the software on their servers to provide e-mail to their users, like small businesses and such.

If your interested =) contact me via one of these:

msn: svrhappy@msn.com
yim: totomds
aim: totomds (have to tell me your aim first because of my aim privacy settings though)
email: toto@stealthonline.com

As far as the php part of the project, I have already have a rough start of it for you to work on! =)
