Inactive members?

Ok, so not that this is a real problem but I went through the members directory and noticed that their are members who haven't made a single post in the last year... So my question is why do we bother to keep their names in the directory? Why not just pull the people that haven't posted, in say 6 months, from the directory?

I've noticed these "ghost" members too. We have 8623 members and only about 50 of them use this fourm regulary.

I was thinking that too. Shall we say to the people who don't use this form at all...waste of space?

They sign up and that's it. Wonder why the hell they do that. I'd agree with you ravcam. People who haven't posted for 6 months to a year..than delete. Or better yet, if the person hasn't posted for 6 months, the administrator should send an email saying that the user hasn't posted and to reply if they want to continue their account on vb-world.net.

The wonderful things I think of...damn, I'm just so smart ;].

The way I see it, it's only going to be a problem all the decent log-in names have been taken and you are stuck with a silly username like, dare I say it...

This is a problem with ISP such as AOL but I don't really think it's a problem here (yet)

How much space do a nonposting VB-World member take?
And how much of that space do you need?

Just let them hang around and they will do no harm to you.

Maybe we should ask John to make a choice in the members directory, since thats were ravcam's problem started.

All members
Members who have made post's the last month
Members who have made post's the last three month
Members who have made post's the last six month
Members who have made post's the last tvelve month
....

Yeah...just like a Hotmail account. If you don't log in for 3 months(I think) your account is deleted.

I thought it was for 120 days.

What about those who actually don't even visit the forums? I know you can trace them John, since the there is that recent posts thing feature.

Also is there a unregister feature? If someone have choosen a membername and regret it then he surely wants to unregister that membername.

There are some people with only 0-2 posts. Even if they do want to come back, they can always Re-register.

I realize they aren't taking up much space but what I do feel is that they may be using other names that others want, and I feel that the forum should at least keep a fairly acurate and up to date list of members... I see no point in saying we have 8000+ members if only a few thousand or so are active.

Maybe you could send users an email once in a while to confirm that they should keep their account active.

Compugeek, or simply send an email when a user haven't been online in say 120 days and if no response in 24 hours, your account get's killed

24,48,72 hours, it doesn't really matter. Just as long as something is done with these people.
