Is there a way I can stop the PC's internal speaker from beeping? I tried disabling it from the device manager but it didn't seem to do anything, and I couldn't see anything in the sounds/multimedia properties in control panel.
And don't say unplug it from the motherboard, 'cause I've already thought of that ;)

Typed your question into Google, got this as the very first link:

Make sure to look at the bottom of the page for additional options.

Hehe, thanks. I didn't even think of TweakUI, even though I have it on my PC! It worked by the way. :)

Why didn't it work to unplug from the motherboard?
BTW, everyone uses Google so much these days! I remember when AltaVista was all the rage ;)

AltaVista is awesome, still is, just isn't quite as good as Google.

I admit I go looking for the odd crack, like a few days ago I wanted a crack for CuteFTP XP. I own CuteFTP 4.2, I didn't fancy paying 20 bucks just for a bloody upgrade. The full thing is only 10 more

Honestly, I go away and leave you for one night, and look what happens - you trash my thread about the PC speaker, and turn it into a pirating thread :D

I used to use AltaVista all the time, then they changed it a couple of years ago and it wasn't as good. Then Google came along and blew it away. Google's easier to use and gets better results, IMHO.

Same thing, I used to use Alta Vista but Google seems better now.

I've always used Yahoo, and it works almost as well as google. I never go to the page though, I just type the following line into my address bar and it will search:
y Search Query Goes here
and it will search yahoo. or if change the Y to a G, it will search google. That's the best thing I've ever seen come out of Microsoft... lol.
Since this a topic about PC speakers... I want to know the opposite of you. How the hell do I turn mine on?! It's plugged in correctly, it just doesn't work. :(

You can do that in opera too, there's a search bar which you select the search engine you want to use, something similar in Mozilla too.
Have you checked your device manager? And also the sound and multimedia bits in the control panel?

Yea I've checked the multimedia control panel and the volume manager. The PC Speaker Mute box was checked, so I unchecked it, and it still does not beep. hmm oh well I don't really *need* the PC Speaker, I just don't like not being able to use the Beep code in VB, just to test it and stuff.

Are you sure it's connected internally?

Yup. I've checked it many times. I've pulled it out and switched the polarity of it and it still doesn't work. I've pretty much given up on it.

Yahoo search (other than their own page index) is "Powered By Google", so that might explain why it's almost as good.
