Microsoft Virtual Machine in Windows XP Pro

Since Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom have decided to stop offering the Virtual Machine as a download on their website, does anyone have any idea where I can get it from?

I had a similar problem. Apparently you have to wait for an update to become available on the Windows Update site, or go to a place that requires Java that will start up the Install on Demand thing

I tried the install on demand thing, but it doesn't work, just goes to the MS page that sez "Not Available".

You've got two options

1. Go to Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com).
2. Under "See Also" on the left, click "Windows Update Catalog". (If you don't see "See Also", please read the top of this question in bold)
3. On the right, click "Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems".
4. Select "Windows XP Professional" or "Windows XP Home Edition" depending upon which version of Windows XP you are running in the Operating System menu.
5. Click "Advanced search options".
6. Search for the key word, "VM" without the quotes.
7. You will find one update in the "Critical Updates and Service Packs" category. Click "Critical Updates and Service Packs".
8. You will find an item called "Security Update, March 4, 2002 - (Posted Date: July 10, 2002)". Click Add below the item to add it to your Download Basket.
9. Click "Go to Download Basket".
10. Click the "Browse" button to tell it where you want to download the file. For example, "C:\".
11. Click "Download Now".
12. Click "Accept" to download the file in the dialog that appears.
13. Once it is done downloading, Windows Update will present to you a web page. There will be a "location" link to the actual file that you downloaded on the page. Click it.
14. A folder window will appear. Double-click "MSJavx86.exe".
15. Follow the install procedures.
16. Reboot if necessary after installation.

Or just dump the XP and throw Win2K on.

Third option, I downloaded the JDK which I need for Uni next year anyway.
