Wow! Peer-to-peer communities

Has anyone here ever tried Groove 2.0? I absolutely love it! It's great. It's just like MSN Communities, Yahoo! Clubs/Groups, or what used to be Excite Clubs/Groups. The difference is that it is not server-based. Instead, it is a peer-to-peer connection that keeps the data in sync. Give it a try! Do you know of any, simpler programs? I just need something that'll work over our network. (We've set up a radio network between my house and my boyf's house :cool: )

Actually, I have yet to find other software that is like Groove. However, I know that Groove does work over a local network, and has some features for doing just that. Did you use it?

How do you set up a "radio network" between multiple houses? I am interested in what/how that is. Please let me know more! :eek:

I'm not sure about it, my Dad set it up, and I'm not technically minded. My boyf's house is 1km away, he's on top of the hill, we have direct line of site. My Dad made some aerials, and a router for both ends, and voila! :D We hd a bit of difficulty bridging the network cards, but he sorted it out :) It took about a week to set up, both of us already have networks set up, so all we had to do is plug the routers in :) That's all I know! Like I said, I'm not a techy person, I'll ask my dad if he can give you a more complicated version.

Wow, that's further than I expected! I've heard about doing wireless networking between locations before. What do you do about interference and/or security?

It's all automatically encrypted. My dad bought a wireless networking set from e-bay a few months ago, using our little aerials, the signal would reach from the front garden, to the back :) My boyfriend and I were having troubles swapping files, specially over the net, he's on modem, and we're on dsl, so my Dad thought he'd set up the radio network for us to fileshare, and play UT, SC and WCIII :cool:, anyway, all we had to do was download the software, and install it on two machines, that act as routers :)

We haven't had any interference problems, apart from the neighbours that is. One guy (who said he lived accross the road from us, but I've never seen him, and I've lived here all my life, came around saying our aerial was messing up his mobile, which is impossible, because it wasn't even plugged in! I dunno, some people are just real *******s.

While we're on the topic, we're having trouble playing network games. UT, SC and WC can't recognise games on a different subnet, and we can't find a way to manually enter the IP addresses. Any ideas?
