It depends on what you want to do, and what you already know.
For example PHP is a good for web development, but if you have never learn HTML then PHP would be most difficult.

So I am guessing you want to start learning PHP? if you want to learn VB this is the wrong part of the forum to ask.

PHP will give you the following:
- Syntax structure based on C, C++, Perl, and JavaScript
- Interaction with a MySQL/SQL/etc database
- Simple Variable declarations meaning you do not have to define the variable type
- Hundreds of Resources and Help Forums
- A general Idea of what Programming is and what it requires.
The best advantage of them all is the top one as if you ever want to get into Software Applications and Windows Programming C++ is the way to go. I Personally started with Turbo Pascal, Basic, then C++, HTML, JavaScript, then to PHP, C, and Visual Basic.
I found that prior knowledge in C++ and JavaScript helped me learn PHP, but I also found out that PHP was easier to understand and learn from a beginners point of view.
