Hi to all you helpers !

Here is the task: develop an application with which assets can be controlled.

There is a set of Word97-forms that need to be filled in.

Furthermore there should be an Excel97-file that records the forms and therefore the assets.

Common Users are only to fill in and print certain forms, specialized users are to create tags and other forms.

How can I set up a VB6-application that does all of that ?

I would like the application to have a splash and login.frm (got that), selections for CREATE NEW, MODIFY, TRANSFER TO DATABASE, etc.

I really don´t know how to start. Any ideas or even links to sample-applications are very much appreciated.

Please, don´t leave me alone with this.

It sounds like you are new to Visual Basic and from your description of what you need, it seems that you are being asked to develop a fairly complex application. I don't like discouraging people, but unfortunately I believe that without someone to work with you one on one, I think you will have a difficult time. The best thing that I can suggest is that you go to your local technical book store and buy a how-to book on VB6, of which there are many. After reading it you should have some idea of how to start, and then if you have specific questions, ask them here.

    Catarina,

Gee there's about twenty different questions posed here. Having just finished an asset system in vb5 with calls to excel etc. You should also look at re-valuation before the end of the fiscal period, profit on sales, etc etc etc. Before ya even start you need to review exactly what your users require and your local business laws and financial reporting requirements.

    Martin,

thanks for your hint, but as usual, there isn´t enough time for reading technical help-books. From what I have now, it seems to be a good idea to start with some sort of database. Either I can redesign the forms in VB or send the info to Word.

    jritchie,

thanks to you, too. You are right about the financial elements, only those would be processed by an accounting program. This accounting program is not able to simplify entries for a number of departments or to print tags and lists. That´s really all we need. We have a possibility to upload the assets info from this VB application (or Excel-file) into the accounting program.

    Best regards - and it´s snowing !

    hi!
Like Martin Liss said, you should probably learn some more first. If you've just started programming, then you can go to the site below. The tutorials page has lots of short tutorials for beginners. I'm sorry if I didn't help too much!
