Users with no MS Access

Hi

I want to build a VB program and ship with it an Access 97 database that users will be able to add/ view records.

Some of the users do not have Access. Is this a problem?

What is best? to use the intrinsic data control shipped with VB or use DAO code or use ADO code?

I will need to install it on machines with Win 95/98/2000 and NT and some of these machines will not have Access/ will have access 97 or will have access 2000. What will I need to be aware of when it comes to creating the installation package using 'Package and deployment'.

As long as you have the latest data access pack you should be fine.

I wouldn't use the intrinsic data control. I'd use the ADO Data Control 6.0 that you can add to your project using the Project, Components menu. It has more features & functionality than the standard control although both will work with an Access database since VB's native database is the Jet (Access) database.

Also, a Data Control provides the built-in navigation (ie. MoveNext, MovePrevious, MoveFirst, MoveLast) capabilities where using ADO code requires you add additional command buttons & associated code to your form. Plus, if you're relatively new to VB & Data Objects, ADO code can be somewhat daunting. The Data Control is much easier to use to get started.
