 Replacing my CD Drive!!!
Ok, I'm trying to replace my old CD drive. I think the laser went... anyway..
I have a new cd drive in my hands, and it doesn't seem to coming togethor all that well.
I have a 2 Harddrives plus the CD. The first harddrive (0.5gb) was the original drive, and later on we added another drive (10gb, partitioned into 5 2gb sections). So the 10gb connects to the motherboard through the 0.5
The CD connects to the other plug thing on the motherboard. At the moment I've set the CD to Master, and I'm not getting anything to work. I'm thinking the CD drive is trying use the "E:" drive letter when it really should be using "I:". At the moment when I run it, it takes forever for the computer to do POST, and when it does it brings up an Error Saying: Disk Failur 0. And when I tell it to resume it gives my a message "Operating System Not Found"
With the CD, I have the orginal cords that came with the old CD.
Can anyone help????

I'm guessing that you have the CD-ROM on the primary channel, and you have the two hard drives on the secondary channel. Have you tried switching them around? Next, make sure that if your CD-ROM is set to master, then it is at the end of the cable, and not in the middle of the cable.

There are two channels (places to plug hard drives and cd-roms, etc.) on the motherboard. If it's a newer motherboard, one might be blue and the other one black. If not, it will be labeled on the motherboard somewhere IDE0 and IDE1. Make sure the cable connected to the two hard drives is connected to the blue one or IDE0. Then, make sure that you have the CD-ROM at the end of the cable, and not the center:
This picture isn't very good, but i hope it kinda explains it. the wire coming out of the blue connector on the motherboard goes to the hard drives and the one coming out of the black one goes to the CD-rom.

Yeah I made it myself... are you being sarcastic? It's not very clear on which cable goes to which IDE channel....

when I was a tech I was really stuck on this one system and I called one of the other techs over and rebooted the system. He looks at the screen and says "There's your problem, see that error message?" I look at the screen and don't see anything unusual so I reply "no." He says When you booted it was in red letters and walked away. So I reboot again and sure enough in big red letters....
