Help ! trouble opening my previously fine projects

I have just tried to open a project of mine that has worked fine for the last couple of years , when I opened it this morning after not having used it for a month or so I get the message :
file format no longer supported continue loading project ?
So I do continue loading the project and then when I try to run the project it bombs out and tells me method or data member not found and highlights a line about the progress bar.min property.
Its as if the knowledge of progress bars has been erased from my project some how and it doesn't know what they are.
In the log file for loading the form in vb i get these messages

class comctllib.progressbar of control progressbar1 was not a loaded control class
the property name _extentX in progressbar1 is invalid
the property name _extentY in progressbar1 is invalid
the property name _version in progressbar1 is invalid

when I try to load microsoft windows common controls 5.0 which I think the progress bar is part of ( correct me if I am wrong ) then again I get the message file format no longer suppoorted.

Whats going on here guys ? can someone help me or tell me what to do as this software is very critical and I am frankly ****ting my pants !!!!!.

Do you have common controls 6.0? That's where my progress bar is.
