They dont support Win 3.1 either..why does no one complain about that?

95 is out of date and doesnt provide what .NET needs.

Maybe I need this cleared up, but I've heard that VB.Net requires huge framework files that, currently, are on only about 10% of machines world-wide. Given that this information is correct, I plan to keep using VB6 until framework becomes available in more abundance.

Just my humble, ignorant comment.

Someone posted a link to Amazon to buy VB.Net and I followed it. Then I realized it wasn't really expensive and figured I might not use it to make actual applications for awhile, but it'd probably be worthwhile to get it under my wing so it's not so much of a thing later on.

Your pants are out of date, your hair is out of date. Your beliefs and ideas are also out of date. Does that mean you're going to change them? No. What works works.

Now my question is, does 95 also imply 98 and ME as well? Why is Microsoft Releasing and Mainstreaming Operating Systems and at the same time creating software not compatible with it. It just doesn't make sense. "In order to use my product, you must pay so much for it, and then go pay ever so much more to update your OS."

98, ME, 2000, XP... All of those and future OS's from MS support the .Net framework. The ones missing are 95 and 3.1. Those OS's are just to far out of date. I can't remember the last time I seen a person actually use a 95 machine full time. Maybe for little stuff, but it wasn't the persons main OS.

And I tell you what, you will most likely change your mind about .Net once you start using and getting used to it. There is just too much there to offer to not take advantage of it. It would be like saying something like, "I have a car in the garage, but I have to pay insurance to drive it, so I will stick with my skateboard for now."

You will get over the framework thing real quick when you develop with .Net. I used to think the same way you do now, but when I got .Net to learn I realized that the inconvience of downloading the framework will be rewarded when I can offer my users more features because I am not wasting as much time coding mundain details and such. I won't go back to VB6, unless required by a job or to support my existing apps. All new apps I build will be with .Net.

No, it's true. Developing .NET applications isn't supported on 95, 98, or ME. It was going to be, but now it's not. I was rather peturbed at first to, but then, in talking to my fellow devs, they looked at me and said, "You develop in 98? Why???" So I guess MS feels justified in this decision because probably all the dev shops develop in NT/2000/XP (Most likely 2000). It sucks for the home hobbiest, but there it is.

However, you can run .NET programs on 98 and ME. I don't think you can run them on 95 though.

That's what I meant, running .Net applications on 98 and ME. That would just suck if users couldn't.

I do also know that you must have an NT based system to develope them, and I think it sucks. I can't really afford to upgrade my OS and buy .Net right now.

Yeah, I hear ya. I've been wanting .NET since it came out, but I have to upgrade my machine first. Blah.

I just got a wad of dough from my Open House, but I have to pay for my tuition this fall and to fix my car, a few vacations plus bills...I just can't afford to buy an OS and expensive software at the same time.

But as soon as I can...
